Scenic walks by the bay are definitely one of my greatest pastimes. Specifically, marinas, are perfect for gathering the family and enjoying nature. During Summer, marinas also make the perfect location to cool off as the breezy wind by the bay cools you down. One of my favorites is The San Leandro Marina or Marina Park located in San Leandro, California. You can easily spend several hours here and there are two restaurants located nearby, El Toritos and Horatios if you get hungry. There is also often a few ice cream trucks around if you have a sweet tooth!
Located on the east side of the San Francisco Bay Area, The San Leandro Marina is a gorgeous place for a family picnic or walk along the bay. Coming from 880, take the Marina Boulevard exit in San Leandro and head west until you reach the parking lot. There are several parking lots to choose from but the closest one to the amenities and direct access to the trails along the bay is the one straight to the back. The parking lot is small so you most likely will have to park along the street or in the parking lot located across from the golf course and adjacent to the boating dock.
Once parked, you will see a restroom and a playground. If you parked closer to the boat docks, you will walk past several picnic areas, another restroom, a sandpit meant for volleyball, and a smaller playground meant for toddlers. There is also a large grassy field perfect for a soccer game, which they often have on this field! There is no entry fee and dogs are allowed in the park.
Once on the actual trail, you can choose to walk around the loop around Faro point, you can enjoy about a mile walk overlooking the ocean and planes landing at the Oakland Airport. Along the brief trail, there are several outdoor exercise equipment and instructions on how to use them so you can make the most of your walk.
When the tide is low, you can walk to an island located about 100 meters from the trail.
Since walking around the loop is a little short, you can go right to enter the trail that will lead you to San Lorenzo Creek. Head east from the ocean and turn right on Monarch Bay Dr. You should see a large mural of a whale on the left side along with a dog park. If you continue on this trail, you can enjoy a few miles of a paved, easy walk around the bay.
The trails at The San Leandro Marina are perfect for bikes or strollers as it is mostly paved and accessible. It is mostly flat and great for a family walk. If you plan on having larger parties here to take advantage of the amazing picnic areas, be sure to check the website on how to reserve a spot.
The San Leandro Marina is a great go-to if you’re in the East Bay as it has all the amenities, is well maintained and very accessible for the whole family!
